I love myself a good sandwich place, and this is BY FAR the best deli around. Actually, it's the best sandwich I've ever had in my life. Ever. Period. I used to work right across the street from this place and would go there at least twice a week. Never got tired of it. We don't make it out there as often as we'd like now (a bit of a drive from Meridian), but every time we go it's just as good as ever. I always order the Frank Sinatra, and it is simply marvelous. Honestly, it's the perfect sandwich. Their meats are delicious and that balsamic vinegar they use is just a thin slice of heaven. In fact, I'm pretty sure these are the only sandwiches that will be served in heaven. Check this place out. The guy who runs it is a real New Yorker and a way nice guy. I once asked him what made him want to open up a sandwich place here and his answer was "well, I figured I could do it better than anyone else could." And he was right!

My favorite place to order in for the night! The food is to die for, and the workers are so friendly. Also, don't know how they do it, but they get to my house in under ten minutes with my food. Booooyahhhh, Jimmy Johns! :)

  • Steven D.

This is the real deal! Top quality meats, the right bread and the balsamic soaked toppings are amazing. I haven't had anything like this since leaving Jersey years ago

This place has never let me down. Any type of sandwich you want. The meats, cheeses, and toppings are always right on. The number 16 is so good that it is hard to try anything else. Don't expect a fancy place here. Just a awesome sandwich.

Gotta love Boars Head meat on freash bread! It's really NOT a sandwitch unless it has Boars Head. If you have never tried it you need to!

  • Rach G.

Great sandwiches! And they're not afraid to pile on the meat! They actually put lots of prosciutto on instead of treating it like gold. Unique sandwiches with a great variety of flavors that all meld well together.

If you want a real sandwich Uncle G's is the place! I literally have had every sandwich on the menu and then some of my own making, the Italian style sandwiches being my favorite. I love that you don't get a salad on your sandwich like another chain place that you all know who I'm taking about. (If I wanted a salad I would order a salad $@#way!!!!) I love the NY style deli of Uncle G's you get it fresh n on the spot and Jimmy n Stevie make you feel like your one of the family. If your a sandwich guy or gal this place is a must try.

Honest to God real New York Deli brought to you in Boise by some boys from Brooklyn. Huge tasty sandwiches made to order with the best meat and cheeses. The home made cannoli's are just like being in NY. Do NOT pass this gem by!

  • Alison L.

This place is a legit old school Italian sandwich shop. Their sandwiches are big and good! And the workers def know how to entertain their guests! Hinter: Their sliced deli meat and cheese are sold by the pound and cheaper then the grocery stores! AND they only have Boars head!

    (5)
  • Caroline T.

Boars Head meats, fatty sandwiches, ppickles...like a New York Deli. Guys who work there (at least when I've been in) were legit from NY. Very friendly, great food! Sandwiches are kind of spendy, but let's face it, you don't go to a place like this for a $5 footlong. This is the real deal. Fine sandwiches cost a bit more for quality.

Great service and a great sandwich. I got a large quantity of very good food at a very decent price. Service was also excellent. I'll definitely be coming back!

What a gem!!! Walk straight into little Italy when you enter this sandwich shop. Thy have fresh meats and cheeses (sliced to order) that they will happily stack into chewy Italian bread with your toppings of choice. Prefer a sandwich of their invention? They have 24. Or make your own. They also offer soup, chips, cold salads and desserts. On our first trip we had a meatball (#18) and a make my own of ham, provolone, red onions and spicy mustard as well as a cup of soup. The bread is the perfect companion to the juicy and tender meatballs. They are not drowned in sauce so you can actually taste the meat. My ham Sammy was generous, evenly layered and had a lavish portion of spicy mustard. The soup was tomato basil and was reminiscent of a marinara. In a good way. It was chunky tomatoes and fresh leaves of basil. Perfectly seasoned. It was not cream based but had a very nice texture. Uncle G's also has fresh Italian sausages they make for you to take home and grill and they also have some deliciously fatty looking imported salami that will be coming home with me next time. They offer catering (lasagna!) and large party subs as well. Overall, skip Cobbys and don't even think about subway. This is THE sandwich shop to go to. And you just want to buy meat? Fughedaboutit!!! Don't waste time at the grocery. Pick it right up here, for cheaper and support a local business.

Came pick up my tailored dress next door therefore decided to give a try in this place. The facade has a lot of hand drawn paint on it reminds me a old crapy thrift store. If it wasn't my colleague I would never step in myself. Anyway, the food is decent. I got a couple samplers of different kind of pasta. The owner wasn't helpful to explain the food they have. That's why I gave three stars is because of the service was not polite.

Very friendly staff. Great sandwiches some meats that are great to pick up for dinner and lots of great deli meats and cheeses.

You WILL NOT find a more legit Italian sandwich in the state of Idaho. We had the #16, Giuseppe's Italian... to die for. Perfect amount of vinegar in the dressing, awesome pile of Italian meats. Great stuff!

  • Chris H.

Great little New York style Deli with really nice guy serving up some of the best pastrami I've had in Boise! This is the kind of place where you just walk in and ask "what's good"? And the guys says the New Yorker.. And just starts making your sandwich! This was my first visit but definitely not my last!

So glad I stumbled into this place. Been back two days I a row. Authentic NY deli sandwiches with sliced to order meat and cheese. Also fresh Mozzarella and Lasagna by the slice or pan to go. Huge assortment of deli meats and sausages. Outstanding customer service with an owner who seems to know everyone in the places names except mine. He will know it before I leave this town!

Amazing!!!best sandwich shop in Idaho. Number 3 is my fav!!!I also had the eggplant parm which was absolutely delicious. Great service fast and friendly

Oh Uncle Guiseppe! How I wish you were MY uncle. Firstly, because then perhaps I could enjoy your deli deliciousness every day. Secondly, because I enjoy saying "Uncle Guiseppe" with an feigned Italian accent while gesturing emphatically. (what?) Came here and ordered their #18 Gambino, which was a meatball with marinara sub. It was solid, though not stupendous. Where they have hooked me for life is with their #21 The New York. My dining companion ordered this delectable sammy (and offered me a bite), which features New York pastrami (shipped straight from the Carnige Hall deli in NY, the gentleman behind the counter informed me). The pastrami is out of this world--like, if I could have gotten away with swiping it from my dining companion, I would have...except, my dining companion was my mother and I'm pretty sure she'd have smacked my wrist and shouted something like, "Ophelia Michaels! Where are your manners!" (dang mom!) The sandwich also comes with a nice spicy mustard--which is not overly spicy but rather just right and makes the sandwich all the better. The service was delightful and the place was cute and clean. They've also started doing single servings of lasagna for take-out. And, they cater to boot. Oh...and homemade cannoli's, my people. Homemade. Cannoli's. Get to it!

This is truly the best New York style deli in the Treasure Valley. One of my pet peeves living in the area is a lack of a quality, real traditional tasting Pastrami sandwich. I've been to all the "best sandwich" places in this area and none compare, or even come close to Uncle Giuseppe's. I had the foot long Good Fellas pastrami sandwich and it was fantastic! With a side of their New England Clam Chowder, which was also some of the best chowder I've had in years, I was in culinary heaven. My wife had the Lasagna with Lobster Bisque soup as a side. She was thoroughly satisfied with the quality, taste and texture of both. I'm looking forward to and planning my next deli adventure to Uncle Giuseppe's. If you are reading this...STOP and head immediately to Uncle Giuseppe's! I'll be in line just ahead of you. Enjoy.

Yummy sandwiches. NOT stingy on the yummy meat, cheese, or fixings. Fast and friendly owner (?) behind the counter. Flavorful Philly Cheesesteak sandwich. I usually get the American and husband is working his way through the most popular sandwiches and has liked them all. Yum!

  • Jerold D.

Pros: Friendly & helpful service Meats & cheeses are great quality, very tasty Bread was more flavorful than chain sub shops Many different options to choose from Cons: I found the bread to be a bit on the dense & heavy side There were only 2 small pieces of tomato on the entire footlong sandwich Lettuce was not the freshest on my sandwich. I could see it was on it's way out as well as taste it Cannoli cream was separated & not smooth, even though I ate it right after the sandwich. The shell was nice & crispy though Shop seemed a bit cluttered & not as clean as I prefer I don't think I'll return, the cons outweigh the pros for me too much. The price was pretty steep for what I got too. $15 for a footlong, a cannoli & a soda. Either the menu price for the sandwich is wrong, the soda & cannoli cost $7, or I was overcharged. I don't mind paying for what I want, but the food has to be worth it.

Delicious New York style deli! Homemade balsamic vinegar, Boars Head meats, and family owned.

All the other reviews are true. Great deli. The guys are authentic East Coast. Sammiches were fantastic as well was the soup. Will definitely be back.

Real Italian sandwiches, salads and desserts! Tons of choices too! The Gambino meatball sandwich was fabulous! And their salads are amazing too. Support local!

There's no point in going to any other sandwich shop when you've got this place. I've gone in multiple times and there has never been any disappointment! My favorite is the Dean Martin, but I've also had the Bronco Nation and tried my husbands' Superfecta and Bonanza. Basically, I don't think you can go wrong.

  • Bradley C.

Great people, great food. Enjoy talking with the owner as he is a knowledgeable man. I feel at home when I walk through the door as I know that I'm treated like family, this is how business used to be done and how they do business everyday. Tips, everything is good up and down the menu you can't go wrong. So go enjoy and be thankful for such a place.

  • Nicole S.

Great food! Watch out though, they put oil on the sandwiches which I managed to drip all over my jeans!

  • Jessica P.

Good lord, this place is delicious. Simply done, extremely well. High quality meats cheese and bread - the kind of place you will get a wicked craving for on a regular basis. Been here four times, never disappointed, and always was sorry to see the last bite of sandwich go.

  • Kali S.

Ordered a few sandwiches for work and they were delicious once again! You guys are the best, hands down. Thank you!

  • Daniel R.

I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs and the lobster bisque. I was excited to try the place after seeing such a high rating on yelp. Unfortunately, I have to disagree with the other reviews. The spaghetti sauce was tangy, but lacked flavor. The meatballs tasted like strait ground beef, very little seasoning. I make better meatballs! The lobster bisque was one of the worst I've ever eaten. Tasted like it came right out of a can. No pieces of lobster at all. There was a floating piece soggy bread inside. I did look through the reviews and clearly the sandwiches are the specialty here. If I do return, I will try the pastrami which looked good in pictures. The owner/guy working the register was very friendly and this is why it pains me to write the review. Honestly I'd give the soup zero stars and the spaghetti one star, because the noodles were cooked well.

  • Kirsten V.

Their menu was so extensive with sanwiches that you don't see here everywhere at every sandwich place ! Adorable little deli perfect for dates, and they have authentic Italian deli swag there. Big ass huuuuuuge pickles, cannoli (!!!!!!!!!), and imported meats and cheeses. This place is so awesome!! A tiny gem in Boise!

    (5)
  • Michelle W.

Heard about this place through a friend, and I am so glad I took their advice! Everyone is so nice and everything is beyond delicious. It's like being in Little Italy. We got the lobster bisque; #23 Bonanno with meatball, sausage, eggplant sauce, and gouda; and the calamari salad. All so good!

  • Danish I.

The best damn sandwich in Boise award goes to this place. Pop in on the weekend and the owners Dad is in the shop and let's you know how things go. True New York Deli, wrapped in butcher paper, but most importantly I had a pastrami sandwich that was amazing!!! Delicious home made canole's and the family style service we love.

    (5)
  • Yanice K.

I have to say I was very disappointed! Stale bread, over cooked pasta, and mediocre service. However, the prices were very reasonable. Don't think we'll return.

  • Davin H.

Enjoyable experience and Food! Authentic NY guy, super friendly in a NY way, gave us the lowdown. I only comprehended about half of it, but enough to know that he takes his trade and fare seriously. We ordered off the menu, #16 and #4, some homemade cheesecake and cannoli, paid the tab, bada-bing, out the door. Food was excellent. Will be returning soon.

  • Dustin B.

I had the eggplant sandwich. It was very good. I would recommend this place for lunch. It's a small place and the seating is not meant for dinner dine in, but it is a nice casual atmosphere. The people who own it are from New York, so it really is a New York style restaurant.

    (5)
  • Kory T.

Great food, super nice guy running the place. $10 for a 6" combo (/med drink & chips) was kind of steep though. Different sandwich styles don't show a pricing difference, so maybe the #16 & #17 are just unusually expensive?

    (3)
  • Ben S.

Great people and great sandwich. Had the signature sandwhich which was excellent. The bread is crispy and soft and the meat is sliced to order from boars head meats. Most sandwiches get an Italian dressing instead of mayo which is a great touch. Had a nice chat with the owner while we ate. I will be going back for sure if I'm ever in the area again.

  • Lori B.

Tried the food for the 1st time today. I ordered delivery: the soprano sandwich, macaroni salad and 2 cannolis. Just great, all of it. And in the interest of full disclosure, I must tell you that I found myself licking the Styrofoam that the cannolis came in after devouring them. Just sayin'.

  • Derek L.

Never fails to satisfy! I am a big fan of lobster bisque and other soups they serve. Very friendly people and a genuine New York vibe .

  • GARY B.

After reading the other reviews we decided to give this deli a try. My wife ordered the meatball sub and I had the pastrami sandwich on rye. With drinks and 1 bag of chips the cost came to $19. I felt this place is overrated by others. My sandwich was a bit fatty and quite small. My wife's was not very flavorful. The atmosphere was nothing to enjoy. It was noisy and we were the only ones there. (Music was loud and annoying.)

    (3)
  • Nick N.

Me: what time do you close tonight? Owner: we close at 8. We drive across town (passing possibly every other sandwich shop in town) arriving at 7:42. Place is closed. Poor business practices. Thanks for being lazy.

  • Lino R.

Great job here. Awesome sandwiches at great prices. Thank you for passing on the great deal on Boars Head meats to us. I wish you guys the best.

    (5)
  • Christopher S.

My (hot) sandwich was messy & cold. It seemed like a gas station sandwich with better meat. The whole was worse than the sum of the parts. I would be willing to try something else there, but there are too many better choices so close.

    (1)
  • Acosta T.

If you don't like the food here youre an idiot. Best sandwiches in boise period. The two morons who gave this place a bad review did so because of the service not the food. Boise is full of places with bad food and good service, help to keep the places with great food, like this one, in business so people with taste can have a place to eat. For the idiots who gave this place a bad service review, do everyone a favor and stay home, the service at this place is good.

Well worth the praise. Yeah, another sandwich place in town. But it's not like all of the others. With Baguette Deli and now Giuseppe's, I have the sandwich angle pretty well covered. With my dream of a Jewish deli opening up here pretty much shot, this is the next best option. An Italian deli run by two blunt-but-friendly, thick-accented New Yorkers (wouldn't want it any other way!) who could easily fit in working at Guido's. I've been big on Boar's Head meats for the past 15 years or so. This isn't like your generic straight-out-of-the-Sysco-truck meat, so it's not cheap. For them to not only use Boar's Head for nearly all of their meats & cheeses but to charge so cheaply for it is a minor miracle. And they pack a good amount of each into your sandwich. As has been mentioned, $6.50 for all their footlongs and $4 for the 6-inchers except for the Italian ($7.50/$4.50). Boar's Head must be cutting them a pretty good deal for Giuseppe's to use them so exclusively, so hopefully the partnership maintains its course. When they told me that Pastry Perfection makes their bread, that gave me some pause as I'm not a big fan of them. But I had to remind myself that this is their recipe for bread and not Pastry Perfection's, and their close proximity makes delivery a snap. Soft and tasty, it really is among the best in town for sandwich rolls. Combine that with a hearty dose of quality meats and cheeses, the roasted peppers, and the kick from the balsamic vinegar (which I wish every sandwich shop would use instead of regular vinegar), and you have yourself what I think is the best (non-Vietnamese) deli sandwich in town. Steve T. has already given the backstory as to why these New York transplants moved here. My only concern is if they will jump ship once the sister graduates from BSU. Whether that happens or not, be sure to thank them for moving here and starting up this very good deli.

Now THAT'S Italian! Cindi and I have been meaning to try Uncle Giuseppe's since we saw it open up in the old Subway location at Glenwood & State Street a month or so ago. As I drove by on the way home from work, I decided tonight was the night (that way if it's good I have an excuse to come back soon with Cindi). The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the smell of an Italian deli reminiscent of ones I remember from my youth in New Jersey and Philadelphia. The next thing I noticed was the genuine New York accent of Uncle Giuseppe's son Steve, who manages the joint. Steve explained that he and his father used to have a large (the size of the CoOp!) Italian deli on Long Island, and they recently moved to Boise to be near his sister, who is attending BSU. I looked over the menu and decided on a #16, the deluxe Italian Giuseppe's with fresh-sliced prosciutto, hot capocollo, sopressata, salami, mortadella, provolone, basil, roasted red peppers, and an Italian balsamic dressing. I was surprised both by the quantity of meats and cheeses, and the very reasonable price for the sandwich: $7.50 for the foot long, and $4.50 for the 6' (and this is their most expensive sandwich: others are $6.50/$4.00). That's $2-$3 less than New York Richie's down the street, and darn close to Subway prices for a sandwich in an entirely different league. I grabbed my soda (this is the kind of place where that's what it's called) and sat at a table, and since I was dining alone, Steve pulled up a chair to chat. The verdict on the sandwich: *amazingly* good, unlike any I've had since moving to Idaho. A perfect balance of flavors, with the spice of the hot capocollo blending perfectly with the sweet of the roasted peppers and the tang of the balsamic dressing. The bread was fresh and perfectly textured. I am in heaven. As I eat, Steve explains about his family's focus on value and quality, and I have to say that's evident in the result. All their soups and salads (which I didn't try) are homemade from scratch. Their cold cuts are Boar's Head brand, which is generally not found in sandwich shops due to its price. And future plans call for the construction of a full kitchen which will broaden their menu (perhaps to include a cheesesteak to compete with New York Richie's). All in all, I rate Uncle Giuseppe's a 5 for quality and value. When they expand their menu to include hot dishes, Yelp may have to expand its rating scale.

Nice Italian Deli. I had a meatball sandwich and is was excellent. The Lobster Bisque was just OK. My boyfriend had a sub sandwich which he said was VERY good. I would of liked to see more of a bottle drink selection, like cream soda. But that's just me. We will eat here again next time I'm in town.

this is the place for a great hand built sandwich. keep an eye on the kids who dress your sandwich as they can forget things occasionally...but don't hesitate to go.

Ok, let me catch my breath here...FINALLY, a real Italian sandwich in Boise! This is a small family owned deli who have taken the time to assemble a menu of sandwiches to satisfy any homesick New Yorker. The sandwiches are packed with meats (You listening Deli George?) and are meticulously assembled on the finest Italian style roles that I have tasted in Idaho. I have been waiting 10 years for a great sandwich in Idaho, and it was well worth the wait. If you love a good Hero Sandwich, run down and see Uncle Giuseppe, he's got what your tummy needs!

Awesome place that we will go again. Good: Amazing food... out of this world Friendly staff Cool bottled sodas Great selection of sides Bad: Not great seating (it's a deli) A little overpriced Cheesecake wasn't as good as it looked

    (4)
  • The Dude S.

Awesome deli. They make some of their own cheese (mozza I know for sure) and some of the meats. True authentic NY-style deli, right here in Boise. The owner is a super nice guy, and he and his wife will make you one bang-up sandwich for a very reasonable price. Better ingredients make for a better sandwich. I haven't ventured off of the sandwich menu yet, but I'm sure their hot food is kickin' as well. Great job, Uncle Giuseppe! Looking forward to frequenting your establishment on a regular basis for years to come.

My husband is from Boston, and we are always on the lookout for a deli/sub shop that is fresh and not a chain! Our search is over! Upon arrival, who I assume to be the owner, handed us a slice of fresh Italian meat to sample, so delicious! Then he promptly and knowledgeably summarized the menu, highlighting that they make their own mozzarella, use boars head meats, and a few of their sausages are flown in from Italy! I had the meatball sub, and my husband had the all American, we were both very happy with our tasty selections, and will definitely be back!

    (5)
  • Bart L.

On an impulse I stopped by over the weekend. The service was prompt and friendly, though admittedly it wasn't too busy. The food was outstanding, a bit pricey, but worth it. The meatball sub was unbelievable, the best in the TV.

Some excellent reviews here already so no need for me to be too detailed. Will simply say, "...When I want the best Italian sammy in town Uncle Giuseppe's has got me covered!"

  • Ellie H.

I would like to say I've tasted the food, but I have been in three times and cannot get anyone to acknowledge me. I have walked up to the counter only to be ignored. I grabbed a to-go menu and sat down at a table for a few minutes waiting for the employees to get off their cell phones to at least say welcome. I walked directly up to the counter and was still ignored. Not even a hello. Three times. Yep, three times. And all three times the place was empty. The food may or not be good. I'll never know since the service is horrible. I won't be trying again.

    (1)
  • Lou M.

I dont see all the hipe here. Yes the food is tasty but the poor service, dirty facility and lack of knowledge of the employees over weighs all of that. Besides that - dont even think about going there on a sunday as they serve stale hard bread. I waited way to long for carry our sliced meat and finally walked out and will never go back

  • Mazen K.

very good sandwhiches. i thought the pasta salad was pricey. i wound up spending $14 for a footlong small pasta salad and a drink. the selection is superb. very italian

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
